On Thursday Oct 23rd, an intimate group gathered for the Fourth Annual Survivors’ Voices program in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed each October. It was an intimate and deeply moving night filled with stories, spoken word, and heartfelt reflections from courageous survivors of domestic violence.
Three remarkable women shared their personal journeys — each one a powerful testament to resilience and hope. One panelist, a former resident of the Kathy J. Weinman Shelter, spoke about rebuilding her life after leaving abuse. Another, now a Resource Support Specialist at the shelter, described her commitment to guiding others through recovery. The third, a family member of Carla Bradley, who manages the shelter’s residential services, offered words of encouragement and strength from a loved one’s perspective.
Their stories were raw and real — filled with emotion, honesty, and unwavering hope. Each speaker reached out to current residents, reminding them that healing is a journey, that this is just the beginning, and that a brighter future is possible.
The shelter’s dining room was beautifully decorated in shades of purple, the color symbolizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Guests enjoyed a warm, catered dinner and, more importantly, the companionship and compassion of a community that cares deeply.
The evening served as a reminder that every voice matters, every story has power, and together, we can continue to build pathways toward safety, healing, and hope.
